In 2024, Lia's company released an updated version of the Challenger press, celebrating its 40th anniversary.
The following improvements were made:
The primer drops through the plunger and into the tube below (previously, it fell sideways into the catcher and then into the tube).
The ergonomic handle is curved for maximum comfort and can be adjusted to suit the individual user.
The primer feeder mount has been moved to the side to free up space above the die.
Otherwise, the Challenger remains the same: a classic O-shaped reloading press. It's rigid, durable, and affordable. It features a 21mm plunger, two primers, a quick-release bushing system, and is robust enough to handle all calibers up to and including 300 Win Mag. It is mounted to the table with three bolts. The primer ejects downwards into a plastic tube. Made in the USA.
Regarding service life: it can handle tens of thousands of reloads—tested in practice, as the piston rod is subject to virtually no load other than the full-size operation, which is performed in the last 0.5 mm of piston stroke. When the case is centered, the shoulders need to be lowered by 0.005 inches. Considering that 90% of users don't reload more than 10,000 reloads in their entire career (and that's far from the limit for the Challenger press), service life is a non-issue.
This is one of the best (indeed, the best) presses for full-scale reloading in terms of price, features, and quality. To maintain the die settings and quickly change them, you can purchase additional bushings.
