This Funayuki single-edged knife was made in the workshop of Ittosai Kanetaka, a craftsman from Sakai, Osaka Prefecture, Japan. He used Yasukihagane carbon steel for this knife. Yasukihagane (a group of elite Japanese steels) has been used by most knife makers in Japan since ancient times. They are also called YSS (Yasuki Speciality Steel).
The knife was forged and tempered by hand.
