Japanese Kamisori Razor – Rairyū, Premium Grade, Rattan-Wrapped Handle, Paulownia Wood Box
This Japanese kamisori razor by Rairyū is a premium-quality example featuring an original rattan-wrapped handle and its original paulownia (kiri) wooden storage box. It is believed to date from the Taishō–Shōwa period.
The hard steel edge is designed to maintain exceptional sharpness over a long period, making it an excellent choice for those who appreciate an extremely close shave.
Included is a natural finishing stone from Shobu-dani, Tomae layer, together with original sharpening powder made from the same Shobu-dani stone.
The stone is slightly hard with good cutting ability, providing excellent finishing performance.
The non-working surfaces of the stone have been sealed for protection.
The stone bears the stamp:
山本男系山主精選
This indicates that the stone was hand-selected by the Yamamoto family, the historical owners of several famous quarries in the Umegahata district of Kyoto. Stones carrying this stamp are generally considered more desirable than unstamped examples because they were personally selected for quality.
The selector was a descendant of the Yamamoto family and the grandson of Ushinosuke Yamamoto, widely recognized as the pioneer of the Okudo quarry.
Seller's Japanese Description

Translation
日本剃刀 (Nihon Kamisori) – Japanese straight razor
雷龍 (Rairyū) – maker or brand "Rairyū"
極上 – premium grade / highest quality
籐巻 – rattan-wrapped handle
桐箱 – paulownia wood storage box
天然砥石 – natural sharpening stone
菖蒲 戸前 – Shobu-dani quarry, Tomae layer
砥粉(正本山) – natural sharpening powder (toigi) produced from genuine Masamotoyama (Honzan) stone
The Stone
very light creamy-yellow color;
virtually free of suita pores;
contains a few fine kirasu lines, which appear stable and non-problematic;
approximately 125 × 80 mm, about 15–18 mm thick—not a full-thickness bench stone but an excellent dedicated razor finishing stone;
its shape is specifically suited for honing kamisori razors.
Shobu Tomae stones are highly regarded among razor enthusiasts for producing an exceptionally smooth, refined finish. The appearance of this stone is consistent with its description.
The Razor
mirror polish is well preserved;
straight, even geometry;
almost no active rust;
original rattan wrapping;
original paulownia presentation box.
These features significantly enhance the collector's value of the set.
Honzan Stone Powder
The included powder is not a modern abrasive compound. It is genuine natural powder produced from a Honzan finishing stone and is traditionally used to create a polishing slurry or for final finishing.
For collectors, the presence of the original powder container is an additional advantage.
Complete Matching Set
What makes this set particularly desirable is that the kamisori razor, the Shobu-dani Tomae finishing stone, and the original natural sharpening powder form a complete, traditional Japanese honing set intended for finishing Japanese razors. Such complete original sets are considerably less common than individual components offered separately.
