The holder of stones for manual sharpening is equipped with three stops, which provides a more reliable and rigid fixation of the abrasive bar. Two metal guides are rigidly fixed in the front stop, are clearly parallel and have no play relative to each other. The front and back stops are made of rubberized metal parts, which exclude the punching of the mounting jaws even with a strong threaded fixation of the stone. The middle support also has a metal insert, which increases its rigidity and allows you to comfortably work with long, but at the same time thin stones. The risk of splitting the bar on hard bonds or deflection of the bar on soft bonds (vulcanite, bakelite, etc.) when pressed is eliminated. In the holder, the landing plane of all three supporting parts is perfectly aligned, the stone lies on the holder clearly over the entire surface, without backlash. The lower part of the holder is equipped with a special tactile notch, which prevents slipping during operation.
One of the main purposes of sharpening stone holders is to raise the bar above the level of the table to a height sufficient for comfortable work (so that the hands do not touch the surface of the table when sharpening). This is especially true for thin stones (as a rule, the thickness of such stones from the manufacturer can be from 10 mm). The lifting height of the stone above the table level for this holder is 22 mm, which is more than enough for comfortable work. At the same time, the height of the jaws is 7.5 mm, which makes it possible to fully use the entire length of the stone without the risk of the blade coming into contact with the thrust jaws.
The maximum length of the stone that can be clamped in the holder is 245 mm. At the same time, the standard length of a large stone for manual sharpening is 210 mm. The minimum length of the stone that is fixed in the holder (with medium support) is 141 mm, which allows you to work quite normally even with standard sharpening bars designed for machine sharpening (6'' or 152.5 mm long).
