Use

Tomo Nagura is primarily used to produce a fine natural slurry on Japanese Awasedo finishing stones.

When rubbed over the surface of the main stone, the nagura releases its own fine abrasive particles while helping to activate the surface of a hard Awasedo. The resulting slurry increases cutting speed, provides smooth and controlled feedback and allows greater control during the final sharpening and polishing stages.

With a moderate hardness of 3.5–4/5, this Tomo Nagura releases slurry relatively easily.

During sharpening, the slurry can be gradually diluted with water, progressing from more active abrasion toward an increasingly fine finish. For the cleanest possible final edge, the slurry can be rinsed away and the last strokes performed directly on the clean Awasedo with water only.

Suitable for Japanese and Western kitchen knives, straight razors, planes, chisels and other high-quality edged tools.

Important: assigning an exact synthetic grit rating to a natural Tomo Nagura is not appropriate. Its performance and final result depend on the base Awasedo, slurry concentration, pressure and sharpening technique.
