The Gen II Level 4 Patagonia PCU (Protective Combat Uniform) Jacket is a versatile, lightweight garment used by the US Special Forces (SOF).
The main material is softshell, the water-repellent properties of which are achieved thanks to silicone encapsulation. Fabric fibers impregnated with silicone impregnation do not allow moderate precipitation and wind to pass through, but remain breathable.
Used by Special Operations Forces (SOF) such as Navy Seals.
EPIC material is able to withstand minor moisture thanks to evenly distributed polymers that create a waterproof barrier. At the same time, the fumes from inside come out freely, so the user’s body does not overheat. Wind protection works in a similar way - the material does not allow wind to pass through, but releases heat from the inside.
Like most windbreakers, this model is designed to be worn in open areas such as steppes and deserts. In view of this, the design of the jacket has its own characteristics. The jacket is equipped with a high collar, a hood, elasticated cuffs and a rubber drawstring along the bottom edge. While the cuffs and collar keep wind and dust out, the adjustable hem allows you to control the temperature under the jacket and release excess heat.
Level 4 consists of a thin, windproof "wind jacket" designed for use within the system, although it can be worn as an outer layer. Typically worn under other layers, it helps retain 300% more heat than without a windshirt. It is ideal for escape and evasion situations as it is very compact and can be rolled up and stuffed into a cargo pocket. It is less durable than Level 5 soft shell clothing and is not intended for high abrasion situations such as low rock crawling or work where the user frequently gets in and out of a vehicle. It is often worn as a lining under a soldier's camouflage uniform and when using a helicopter or other high wind situations.
