Awasedo Mix is a Japanese natural abrasive and polishing powder made from a mixture of high-quality finishing JNATs (Japanese Natural Whetstones) from Kyoto.
The mix contains material from several famous Japanese natural whetstones, including:
Nakayama (中山), Ozuku (大突), Shobudani (菖蒲谷) and other Nishimono and well-known Kyoto stones such as Yaginoshima, Mizukihara, Ōhira, etc.
The powder is produced from natural finishing Awasedo stones. Unlike synthetic abrasives with precisely graded particle sizes, grit ratings for natural JNAT material are only approximate.
Average estimated fineness: approximately #8,000–10,000.
Applications
Awasedo Mix can be used to quickly create a natural finishing slurry on the surface of a Japanese whetstone and for fine polishing of knives and woodworking tools.
Simply mix a small amount of powder with water directly on the working surface of your stone. This quickly produces a fine natural abrasive slurry without the need for a separate Nagura stone.
Especially useful for:
- final sharpening and finishing of knives;
- creating a traditional Kasumi finish on laminated Japanese blades;
- polishing soft jigane and hard hagane;
- finishing Japanese woodworking tools;
- quickly raising slurry on hard Awasedo stones;
- experimenting with natural JNAT polishing finishes.
The slurry can be adjusted by changing the amount of powder, water and working pressure.
As this is a natural mixture of stones from different mines and layers, the exact color and composition of the powder may vary slightly from one packet to another.
