Description

Okudo Tomae (奥殿戸前) is a relatively hard natural sharpening stone from the famous Okudo Mine in the Umegahata district of Kyoto. Distributed by Nakakatsu.

Yamamoto Selection Stamp

The 山本男系山主精選 (Yamamoto Dankei Yamanu-shu Seisen) stamp is especially valuable. It confirms that the stone was personally selected by the Yamamoto family, the historic male lineage of the Umegahata mine owners.

The kanji 奥殿 is sometimes incorrectly read as Okuden or Okudono. Therefore, if you happen to have a Japanese friend who is somewhat familiar with natural sharpening stones, they may pronounce it using one of those names. You can politely tell them that the accepted reading among natural stone enthusiasts is Okudo.

This stone offers high hardness combined with excellent abrasive performance, making it ideal for precision finishing.
